The greenhouse effect is a
natural phenomenon that helps the Earth maintain temperatures
that are suitable for life. When energy originating from the
sun strikes the earth, a layer of greenhouse gas prevents the
radiant energy from escaping.Too high a concentration of green
house gases results in too high temperatures and contributes to
global warming. An increase in global temperatures is
responsible for
melting polar ice, which will likely cause sea levels to
rise.
Here on Earth, man
made pollution or industrial gases act as reflectors which do
not allow heat to be realeased from the Earth's atmosphere,
much like the glass in a greenhouse traps the sun's heat. This
causes the temperature of the greenhouse, or the Earth in this
case to rise - resulting in what some beleive is Global Warming.
While several factors are purported to contribute to global
warming, the primary reason for global warming is pollution.
There are several types of pollutants responsible for global
warming.
